Department Background:

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University's second largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education and outreach. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: natural and human systems; food, energy and environmental resources; and social, physical and economic well-being.

The Cornell Farmworker Program (CFP) is a university-wide program dedicated to improving the living and working conditions of farmworkers and their families. We also seek recognition for farmworkers' contributions to society and their acceptance and full participation in local communities.

Position Summary:

The program aide support staff will play a key role in supporting and enhancing the Cornell Farmworker Program (CFP) outreach efforts by managing and updating the CFP bilingual resource directory. This person will also work with the CFP Director to develop virtual communication strategies and materials tailored to the needs of low literacy immigrant farmworkers.

This role involves creating and field-testing audiovisual training and educational resources for low literacy audiences. This person will also be involved in transcription and translation and assisting with related CFP projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update resource directories to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
  • Develop and implement virtual communication strategies, materials, and activities that effectively address farmworker needs.
  • Create audiovisual training and educational materials designed for low literacy populations.
  • Perform transcription and translation services to facilitate clear communication.
  • Analyze evaluation data to improve educational outreach materials.
  • Collaborate on additional projects and tasks as needed to support organizational goals.

This is a fixed-term 1-year position, part-time at 20 hours per week with the possibility of renewal depending on available funding, work and performance.

Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance are not available for this position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree and 2 to 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Written and oral proficiency in Spanish and English is required.
  • Familiarity with audiovisual production tools and techniques
  • Strong cultural competency with a deep understanding of the farmworker community.
  • Experience in database management and development of virtual communication materials.
  • Ability to create and adapt educational content for diverse literacy levels.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with farmworker populations.
  • Familiarity with audiovisual production tools and techniques for low literacy populations.
  • Experience in transcription and translation of various Spanish idiomatic expressions.
