Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients in an inpatient setting by performing the following duties supporting the nursing philosophy. May include day, evening, night, weekend, holiday, and/or on-call hours. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides quality patient care by performing treatments and procedures according to established protocols.
- Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment
- Administers specified medications as allowed by policy and procedure, licensure, and State Practice Act.
- Responds in a safe and timely manner to patient requests and reports significant observations to the RN promptly.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the patient's plan of care and delivers care safely and within established standards and guidelines. Participates in planning for patient's care by providing input to the RN and under the direction of the RN, assists in implementing the patient care plan.
- Demonstrates knowledge of established hospital and nursing policies. Identifies emergency situations, initiates nursing measures as appropriate within scope of practice in emergency situations and seeks assistance and direction as necessary.
- Instructs patients in self-care according to the teaching plan and the directions of the RN. Documents this aspect of the patient's care.
- Participates in QA & I.
Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited LPN Program. Experience in clinical setting preferred. Certification and Licensure Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in state of practice Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days Special Physical Demands The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Function of the position with or without accommodations. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Level of Supervision Work is performed according to specific procedures and methods, but the incumbent must make minor decisions in order to adapt to routine situation.
