The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

The Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons Office of Development (VP&S OOD), a part of the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), is dedicated to facilitating relationships that support the vision and mission of CUIMC and VP&S: to transform health by driving discovery, advancing care, and educating leaders.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development will join the VP&S OOD as an essential member of a large fundraising team and will manage multi-level assignments that advance fundraising and donor relations goals. The incumbent will assist the Senior Director of Development (SDOD) in providing high-level support to the Board of Advisors and other key VP&S leadership, including the Board Chair and other board members, the Vice President (VP) for Development, and Dean of VP&S. This includes coordinating materials, programming, communications, and meeting logistics for the VP&S Board of Advisors. In addition, the Associate Director will staff the Senior Director on fundraising projects for key priority areas as defined by the Dean and VP&S leadership, working closely with faculty and other stakeholders.

The Associate Director will partner with colleagues in coordinating and implementing activities to engage new supporters and steward current donors, such as panel discussions, cultivation dinners, impact reports, and fundraising events, including the annual Crown Awards Gala celebrating our partners in philanthropy.

Additionally, the incumbent will also have responsibilities supporting the SDOD and VP with moves management and tracking processes for principal gift donors and prospects. These responsibilities include assisting with preparation of meeting materials, correspondence, reports, as well as database management and coordinating follow-up next steps.

Responsibilities



  • Assist the SDOD in providing high-level development staffing and support for the Board of Advisors and other VP&S leadership, including Board Chair, Vice President for Development, and Dean VP&S, including coordinating Board programming, materials, communications, and fundraising projects - 40%
  • Coordinate and implement cultivation and stewardship activities, including panel discussions, cultivation dinners, impact reports, and fundraising events. - 30%
  • Support processes for lead identification and moves management for principal gift prospects and donors, drafting correspondence, preparing meeting materials, and assisting with follow-up tasks. - 20%
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. - 10%


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Special events and volunteer management, preferably two years of experience preferred.
  • Advanced writing skills preferred.

  • Proven track record in a similar environment and demonstrated high energy.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with administrators; faculty, physicians, donors, prospects, and volunteers.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and working relationships with others.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with an ability to prioritize multiple projects and perform in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of management information systems and software programs such as Microsoft Office and SharePoint and the integration of such programs with other donor-based gift records and systems.
  • This position requires work beyond regular hours, including evenings and weekends, as projects and events require.
