Job Summary:

The Office of Informatics and Information Technology is looking for an outstanding candidate for a Data Engineer II position to contribute to the innovative informatics efforts for the UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research and the Clinical and Translational Science Award. Reporting to the Research Data Service Director, the Data Engineer II will be responsible for contributing to building the UW Real World Data Commons (UW-RWDC) mapping data across platforms and common data models including OMOP, i2b2, TriNetX, and mCODE . These resources contribute to investigator self-service and deriving meaningful insights from data, which is an increasing focus for research at UW SMPH. As part of the Informatics Data Service Team, the role of this Data Engineer will also be responsible for data quality assurance and quality control. Additionally, the incumbent will work with to develop queries that translate research objectives into datasets retrieved from the UW-RWDC. The successful candidate will have a solid work ethic and bring an enthusiastic and professional attitude to the workplace.


Responsibilities:
Contributes to a research agenda set by a lead researcher by creating automated processes for preparing and analyzing data at scale. Plays a leadership role and may lead a team and/or personnel.

  • 30% Prepares data sets for current and future analysis including cleaning/quality assurance, transformations, restructuring, and integration of multiple data sources and may use technologies that support data at scale
  • 15% Implements data analysis steps in collaboration with data scientists, statisticians, and/or other researchers and may use technologies that support data at scale
  • 15% Organizes both data preparation and analysis steps into reproducible pipelines that can process similar data sets automatically
  • 5% Selects appropriate technologies and optimizes pipelines for performance
  • 20% Develops, constructs, tests, and maintains architectures for large-scale data management and analysis
  • 15% Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison to key internal and external stakeholders regarding automated data management and analysis at scale for research and represents the interests of large-scale data management and analysis for research

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:
- Experience writing SQL code to extract and manipulate data from large relational databases
- Experience writing Python code to manipulate and analyze datasets
- Experience developing analytics dashboards
- Strong organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills

Preferred:
- Experience developing data pipelines with Microsoft Azure Data Factory
- Experience Designing, Building & Maintaining Databases
- Experience with FHIR and HL7 data feeds
- Experience with clinical vocabularies (ICD, LOINC, SNOMED, CPT, etc.)
- Experience with clinical research common data models (OMOP, i2b2, PCORNet)
- Certified in Epic Cogito Clinical Data Model
- Experience developing Natural Language Processing algorithms
- Experience working with web APIs
- Knowledge of HIPAA and other regulations governing PHI
- Experience reviewing other team member's technical work and providing constructive feedback

It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. An on campus location will be provided should a candidate prefer to work partially or fully onsite.

The starting salary for the position is $80,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
