The Office of Information Technology (
OIT) is Rutgers' enterprise IT office.
OIT provides university wide services and support and collaborates with department and unit IT professionals on projects and initiatives for the Rutgers community. OIT's services and systems include the Rutgers network; email and calendaring systems; IDs/passwords and identity management; data centers; computer labs; help desk support; wireless connectivity; a software portal; information security, risk, and compliance services; research computing; and many others. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Systems Administrator for the Office of Information Technology. As a key member of our informatics team, you will play a crucial role in the management and optimization of our web-based
HIPAA-compliant data collection software, REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Collaborates with technical experts to test monthly and ad-hoc upgrades, ensuring the smooth operation of the system.
- Serves as a valuable liaison between end users and technical staff, providing translation and assistance when needed.
- Works alongside the Clinical and Research Data Warehouse team (CRDW) to securely deliver data using REDCap.
- Contributes to the development and review of policy, procedure, and security documents.
- Provides comprehensive support to REDCap users, including account creation and management, approving database change requests, and addressing user inquiries while promoting best data practices.
- Develops and deliver end user training, equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively utilize the application.
- Fosters collaboration and engagement by participating in the REDCap Consortium, representing Rutgers University.
- Acts as a facilitator for informatics requests and services from various departments and institutions, showcasing your expertise and contributing to the research community.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree plus 7 years of experience in a relevant field or equivalent.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- 3-5 years of REDCap experience, demonstrating a deep understanding of its functionalities or equivalent experience in research design or database management.
- Familiarity with the Entity-Attribute-Value (EAV) database model.
- Working knowledge of SQL.
- Understanding of statistical software packages (ie - R, SAS, Stata) or other programming languages such as PHP and python.
- Knowledge of healthcare research, HIPAA, and other health data regulations.
- Proven ability to deliver software training and provide technical customer support.
- Familiarity with data security best practices.
