Quality Assurance Lab Technician II - Nights

This position is responsible for testing production batches according to specific written testing methods and identifying issues of both in-spec and out-of-spec data. The lab technician will interpret results and historical data to ensure the product meets or exceeds customer requirements for quality as well as provide instructions to production personnel regarding adjustments to batches as needed. The technician will be involved in the efficient operation of the lab, general housekeeping, ensuring a safe work environment and will independently perform tasks as outlined by his/her supervisor/manager.

Additional Information:

Night Shift: 6:00PM - 6:00AM on rotating continuous operations schedule (COS)

Training on Days: 6:00AM - 2:00PM

Job duties include contact with other employees, operating heavy machinery, and access to proprietary information, raw materials, finished merchandise, and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised.   • Batch approval: Assures that all tests are completed, and results meet all specifications before going to the next production process.
  • May assist in training of other lab technicians as needed.
  • Enter all batches' data and raw material adjustments into EBR (Electronic Batch Record).
  • Generate appropriate paperwork as needed per the customer specifications.
  • Gather and send customer samples as required.
  • Submit and close out Discovery reports
  • Follows all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and exercises good judgment and initiatives with little supervision.
  • Gather, stock and manage product retain area.
  • Utilizes appropriate computer systems to ensure effective testing of products.
  • Determines disposition of non-compliant finished goods, such as first case/last case.
  • Appropriately assesses and handles non-conforming materials.
  • Supports the ISO Management Systems and Safety Systems.
  • Maintains inventory of lab supplies, stocks them when received, and requests them when low.
  • Identify and communicate product issues to other departments as needed.
  • Review batch slip for completeness and accuracy.
  • Plans and schedules assignments according to manufacturing priorities to use time efficiently.
  • Works cooperatively with other personnel in effectively completing assignments.
  • Understands, uses, and can explain approved ITM's (International Testing Method) and quality practices.
  • Test in-process finished goods for adherence to stated specifications
  • Tests and accepts/rejects finished goods for cleanliness/contamination
  • Proficient in operating basic and moderately complex lab equipment.
  • Possesses intermediate ability to analyze data, identify, and solve problems.
  • Makes hits and adjustments to batches as necessary.
  • Utilizes Mill Room equipment for lab work to determine appropriate batch adjustments.
  • Ability to assist in the testing of finished goods of all product types.
  • Must be able to work a 12-hours a day schedule.
  • Knows and willingly practices all safety rules and procedures and participates in the plant safety program including the wearing of appropriate safety apparel.
  • Perform all job duties as assigned and directed by supervision or management that may not be listed on this job description.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as assigned and keeps area and equipment clean.
  • Properly handle hazardous waste as part of manufacturing operations, maintenance, raw material handling, and clean-up activities, in order to protect personnel, property and the environment.
  • Follow all EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) regulations and guidelines, including RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act).
  • Maintain ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 certifications.
  • This position will also be classified as a "Hazardous Waste Handler". Refer to the EHS office for specific training and descriptions.
    • If designated to handle Hazardous Waste 90-day accumulation area, then additional training will be required: DOT HazMat 126F.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future
  • Must have one (1) year of work experience in a manufacturing quality role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least an associate degree or higher in Chemistry
  • At least have two (2) year of work experience in a manufacturing quality role
