Lumos is looking for a full-time Engineer II - Edge Network! If you are an experienced network engineer who's excited for a fast-paced experience, ready to help us grow, and ready to recommend process changes that ensure we're harnessing our technology to the best of our ability while broadening our ability to set up and maintain our service, we want to hear from you!

***Hybrid Position: 3 days on-site in High Point, Troutville, Covington, Clifton Forge, or Waynesboro, 2 days work-from-home; On-Call Rotation (1 week on, 7 weeks off) for night / weekend troubleshooting.***

Essential Functions



  • Evaluates new vendors and equipment used in production networks; makes recommendations.
  • Plans maintenance activities, writes Methods of Procedure (MOPs) to help our OSP and Operations accomplish the assembly and connection of the network to itself and to customer equipment. Schedules maintenance in accordance with change management procedures.
  • Seeks to continuously improve customer experience by making recommendations to optimize and simplify the network whenever possible.
  • Tests new software and patches prior to deployment in production networks.
  • Opens and drives support cases with vendors like Calix and Adtran (Network Vendors) to resolve issues in the network.
  • Assesses alarms and logs messages to proactively manage switching equipment.
  • Provisions advanced access circuits and all dedicated Ethernet circuits.
  • Provides Tier 3 support for escalated trouble issues.
  • Engages in troubleshooting with field technicians for specific end-user issues.
  • Assists in turn up and troubleshooting of special circuits.
  • Conducts network audit and grooming projects to accommodate growth or network design changes.
  • Assists OSP and Operations groups with cut sheets and maintenance activities.
  • Displays an aptitude for new technologies and the motivation/ability to master them.
  • Clearly demonstrates an eagerness to learn and contribute to the team.
  • Adheres to regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required



  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand mechanical terminology.
  • Experience performing small mechanical, plumbing, electrical repairs and carpentry work.
  • Ability to organize and schedule varied work activities, while adapting to changes in assignments.
  • Basic MS Office Skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, and Project).



Other Experience & Requirements



  • 5-7 years' relevant work experience.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • CCNA or equivalent from other vendor required.
  • CCNP or equivalent preferred.
  • Fiber or Telecom industry experience preferred.
