Scope of Position The Respiratory Therapy Department provides all types of respiratory care including respiratory therapy treatments, ICU services, neonatal, adult and geriatric, oxygen and humidity therapy, mechanical ventilation, whole blood analysis, and pulmonary diagnostics, both inpatient and outpatient settings. The Associate Director collaborates with the medical director(s), department director, administration, and system colleagues in the development and implementation of department goals and strategies and strategic growth opportunities. The Associate Director is responsible for planning and development of the capital budget and yearly expense budget along with closely monitoring department expenses and productivity throughout the year. The Associate Director is responsible for purchase and maintenance of supplies and equipment for the Respiratory Therapy Department. The Associate Director also works closely with the value analysis team to implement new and alternative respiratory supplies and equipment (capital and non-capital) for use throughout the entire hospital system. The Associate Director is responsible for preparation of department educational experiences related to new equipment, RT Quality Assurance activities and evaluating employee performance. The Associate Director manages the departments information systems, equipment and inventory control, cleaning and decontamination operations, equipment assembly and performance verification procedures, and maintenance operations. The Associate Director represents the respiratory therapy department at various meetings with physicians, nurses, respiratory staff, managers, vendors and other multidisciplinary groups throughout the hospital. Acts in place of Director as needed. Position Summary This position is responsible for the daily operation, leadership and direction of the departments information systems, equipment and inventory control, budget, cleaning and decontamination operations, equipment assembly and performance verification procedures, maintenance operations, management of staff, infection prevention and safety activities. This position assures compliance with regulatory requirements, services and activities are aligned to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Centers mission, strategic plan and KRAs and is responsible for educational experiences, quality assurance and improvement, policy and procedure development, and employee performance evaluation. Minimum Qualifications For Hire: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy approved by the Ohio Medical Board licensure guidelines. 5 12 years or more of experience of relevant experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current Ohio license from the Ohio Medical Board, successful completion of the RRT examination offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care, in-depth knowledge of cardio-pulmonary pathology and physiology and techniques of therapeutic interventions with more than four years of critical care experience. Demonstrate management and supervisory experience. On going: Maintains Ohio Respiratory Care license and complies with Ohio Medical Board laws and rules. Stays current on the state-of-the-art in cardio-pulmonary care. Stays current on healthcare management trends, and applicable legislation and regulatory changes. Patient Population Served Knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatments necessary to meet the age specific needs of the patient population served (Check those that apply): Not Applicable: Non-patient care title Adolescents (14 - 17 years) x Neonates (0 - 6 months) x Adults (18 - 64 years) x Children (7 months - 13 years) x Geriatrics (65 + years) x Job Relationships Supervisory Responsibility: Directly or indirectly supervises staff (registered respiratory therapists, respiratory care therapists, team leaders, storekeeper, office associate and manager and overseers supervision of respiratory students). Contacts: Daily verbal, written, phone and e-mail communication with all levels of administrators, managers and providers across the enterprise. Occasional (weekly/monthly) verbal, written, and phone communication with instructors of various Respiratory Therapy education programs. Daily verbal, written and phone communication with vendors. Daily/Weekly communication with supply, purchasing and financial services personnel across the enterprise. Responsible to: Director of Respiratory Therapy Physical/Visual/Mental Requirements Entering and retrieving information form computer/information systems, using telephone, lifting, carrying, and pulling of objects weighing between 20-50 lbs (i.e. ventilators, tanks, monitors). Standing, walking, climbing, stooping, pulling (i.e. patients, stairs/ramps) Work Environment The work involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, additional safety education and/or health risk monitoring, e.g. working around carts, sharps, chemicals and infectious diseases. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shields.
