Job Summary
Under administrative direction from the Associate Athletic Director for Communication, the Assistant Director for Communication will assist in the day-to-day Athletics department communication and media relations operations for Chicago State University's varsity sports, including publicizing, filling media requests and generating media interest for the intercollegiate athletics program.
Job Description
MEDIA, PUBLIC RELATIONS & WEBSITE

  • Assist in providing coordination of all publicity and communications for the Department of Athletics, including interview coordination and media training for student-athletes and coaches
  • Develop and implement creative media/public relations strategies which includes supervising and approving content posted on all program and department social media accounts for assigned sports.
  • Produce editorial content for athletics website and printed materials for department and assigned sports.
  • Schedule and produce video content for distribution for assigned sports.
  • Responsible for all web site programming, maintenance and initiatives including strategies, editorial content, design and updating of historical data on GoCSUCougars.com and with our web site partner SIDEARM Sports


STATISTICS AND RECORDS

  • Manage and distribute Live Stats and StatCrew/Genius files for all assigned events including soccer, basketball and volleyball. Maintain and update program record books for assigned sports.
  • Collect and maintain records/stats for non-revenue/Olympic sports (golf, track, cross country, tennis, triathlon)

GAMEDAY/ EVENT OPERATIONS

  • Coordinate all aspects of media coverage for home sporting events
  • Schedule, train and supervise student workers, interns and game-day staff
  • Responsible to process and distribute credential requests
  • Manage press box and table at select events
  • Coordinate execution of gameday scripts and PA reads in collaboration with athletic administration partners.
  • Manage scoreboard operations at select events

DESIGN AND GRAPHICS

  • Collaborate and design all published content, promotional materials and social media graphics for assigned sports using graphic design tools (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) and design partner BoxOut
  • Attend Athletic events to support Athletic Communications initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Prior Division I experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  2. Knowledge of social media analytics, social media publishing tools, web analytics, and tracking technologies.
  3. Knowledge of media production, including social media platforms and efficiency of use, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, presentation software, spreadsheet software, video creation and editing software, web page creation and editing software, and analytical or scientific software.
  5. Skill in producing live social media coverage.
  6. Excellent organizational skills to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse community.
  8. Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA rules is a condition of employment in this position.
  9. Ability to work independently and complete assignments without direct supervision.
  10. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments accurately within designated timelines.

  1. Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential functions.

Work Environment
Office and conference room settings. Environment may also encompass athletic / sport setting areas.
