Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer a Masters and 5 years of experience or a PhD degree and 3 years of experience in a field of study commensurate with public health, emergency preparedness, and community resilience. Knowledge and experience in program design and development, grant management and budgeting, and working with governmental organizations and community partners on issues related to emergency preparedness programs. A working knowledge of and interest in the challenges facing Georgia's communities is desired.
Position Summary
This position's primary responsibility is for project management on externally funded research projects within IDM. Since much of our work is driven by healthcare entities, this position will need to have an immediate rapport with our clients. Additionally, this position will assist IDM leadership in research, technical writing, and budget development commensurate with grant deliverables. Continuing education and knowledge are essential to this position. The employee will continue to develop their own skills and certifications via research, training, and education offered at UGA, throughout the nation, and internationally as applicable. Sharing of knowledge is also a requisite function of this position. The employee is expected to present research findings on local, state, national, and international platforms and train graduate and undergraduate students in principles of disaster management and emergency preparedness.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills. Is detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and switch between projects effortlessly.

  • Manage extramurally funded research projects within the Institute for Disaster Management (IDM) to ensure grant deliverables are met on time.
  • Liaise with federal and state agencies to maintain compliance with regulations and align deliverables with current standards.
  • Direct and oversee activities of professional and technical staff members and volunteers.
  • Manage project budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with grant requirements.
  • Lead meetings with project officers and external stakeholders to assess progress and set future goals.

  • Oversee logistics for grant-related activities, including meetings, events, and in-person and virtual training sessions.
  • Direct, develop and deliver training programs in emergency preparedness and healthcare management.
  • Train and educate undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Plan and execute travel logistics, including up to 40 overnight stays annually, to conduct training or attend meetings.

  • Craft after-action reports, improvement plans, project reports, research papers to disseminate key findings.
  • Draft and submit grant proposals and project documentation to meet funding agency standards.
  • Prepare budgets for research proposals covering all research activities and efficiently utilizing resources.
  • Write and submit peer-reviewed journal articles and conference abstracts to contribute to the academic field.
