Summary The Material Handler/Inventory Specialist ensures orderly and accurate distribution of products by pulling orders from inventory, moving materials using forklifts and/or other heavy machinery and delivering production materials. This position is also responsible for tracking incoming and outgoing orders, maintaining detailed records and accurate inventory counts. Your Role
- Safely perform the material handling and warehousing processes required in the receiving, processing, storing, moving, packing, loading and shipping of parts, materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Compare identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, purchase orders, work orders, or other records; resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain inventory by identifying, labeling, counting and placing materials and supplies in stock, recording location of inventory
- Perform weekly cycle counts (inventory), reporting discrepancies to accounting.
- Prepare finished stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing product.
- Maintain material-handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections and preparing reports (twice daily); make operator repairs, reporting equipment damage or malfunction to supervisor and/or maintenance manager.
- Utilize pneumatic tools and/or power tools to build and construct wooden shipping containers.
- Load and unload various types of freight from incoming deliveries using material handling equipment, safely and efficiently, to transport products to shipping locations or delivery platforms.
- Carries out material acceptance inspections, refers concerns to Quality Control if needed.
- Work with other departments to resolve material issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Your Experience Needed
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED required; higher education or technical program preferred.
- 2-3 years of prior experience operating forklifts and other equipment used to fabricate metal parts.
- 2-3 years of prior experience managing inventory in conjunction with shipping and receiving duties.
- Ability to read and interpret two-dimensional blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Experienced forklift driver with exceptional safety record.
- Strong math skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Prior experience working in construction or manufacturing industry, preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of moving, reaching, grasping, making coordinated movements of the hands and arms in the shop/construction/manufacturing and/or various facility locations.
- Prolonged periods of standing while operating loud machinery, wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following safety protocols.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, sliding, and continuous moving of heavy materials weighing up to 25 lbs. using all safety and lifting protocols; occasionally moving or lifting items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- This role may require occasional stooping, bending, squatting, crawling and/or climbing.
- Occasionally ascends/descends a flight of stairs for meetings in the shop/construction/manufacturing areas.
- Confined spaces, high noise levels, moving objects such as forklifts and carts.
- Exposure to hot temperature in areas of the building that cannot be temperature controlled (especially during summer months) or cold temperatures
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- Exposures encountered for loud noises and extreme heat/cold in the shop/construction/manufacturing areas.
