Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Lift Hoisting & Rigging Engineer supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract, at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold AFB, TN. This Engineer will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for maintaining and sustaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be the point of contact for cranes, hardware and structures for lifting, hoisting, and rigging techniques and well as safe material handling. The applicant will be assigned accountability for assisting in analyzing, planning, coordinating, preparing, and monitoring all critical lifting operations supporting multiple directorates across the complex. In addition to the activities associated with critical lifts, the lift engineer will be engaged with and have knowledge of the non-critical lifting and rigging hardware, supporting analysis and planning.

Job Duties

    Provide guidance and direction to engineering and craft personnel in the type of lift selections and attendant lift plan development, advising on lift type, lift risk criteria, and safety planning while assisting engineering with the development, implementation, and execution of standardized/common work processes, procedures, and instructions for critical lifts
  • Support Air Force investigations related to lifting and assist in investigations for Beyond New Horizons (BNH), technical reviews of lift, hoisting, and rigging, and lift structures and lift design.
  • Work with a team of engineers and craftsmen and aspire towards performing as lift director, Person in Charge (PIC) duties for all critical lifts
  • Ensure all lifting and rigging activities are in accordance with the AEDC Hoisting & Rigging Handbook and applicable standards including national consensus codes and federal requirements
  • Work with the Crane & Rigging crew and crane systems engineering to ensure that all lifting and rigging tools and equipment are in good working condition, inspections and maintenance are carried out adequately and timely, and that inspection records are maintained according to the defined Preventative Maintenance schedule
  • Responsible for ensuring and developing all documentation needed (such as lifting & rigging plans, risk assessments, calculations, etc.) and working with the Chief Engineer to ensure documentation quality, thoroughness and timeliness of delivery
  • Performs and manages the work in accordance with relevant BNH policies and procedures
  • Assist with development of long-term planning goals and lift techniques development for the equipment and facilities of responsibility
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in civil or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of 2 years engineering experience

NOTE: This posting is specifically for those engineers with less than 5 years engineering experience

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC

  • Demonstrated interest in lift/hoist/rigging equipment and proper selection of equipment and related technologies for a given task
  • Demonstrated experience developing critical thinking applied to hardware and equipment operations
  • Demonstrated experience in computer aided design (CAD); reading and developing drawings
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a desire to lead
  • Ability to build rapport with others, building and maintaining trusted relationships with employees, client, and test customers
  • Lead continual improvement culture
  • Knowledge and demonstrated practice of related safety measures and setting a good example for others with respect to safety
