Job Summary

Perez Art Museum Miami is seeking a Grant Management Intern for the Spring 2025 semester. The Grant Management Intern will work closely with the Grants Manager (and other Development Team members, as needed), to learn about museum fundraising through grant writing. The intern will learn about the key components of a grant proposal, while also gaining an understanding of the life cycle of a grant award. During the course of the internship program, the intern will have a chance to develop their research and data collection skills, gain exposure to institutional writing, and build their knowledge of the museums history, mission, and vision. To reinforce their knowledge within each of the internship learning areas, the intern will be assigned project-based tasks and will be expected to participate in daily business operations that may require inter- and cross-departmental collaboration. The goal of the program is to introduce talented individuals to multiple career paths within the nonprofit world.

The Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) Internship will provide an active training ground for participants to gain new skills and knowledge of arts administration to apply to future employment in museums and cultural institutions. PAMM interns will have the opportunity to network with PAMM employees and learn about career paths through brown bag lunch meetings and career development sessions.

Duties Include:

  • Assist Grants Manager with collecting and reviewing data for grant proposals and reports
  • Review grant applications and reports with Grants Manager to develop a better understanding of professional writing
  • Attend fact-finding meetings with Grants Manager and members of other departments to gain understanding of the collaborative nature of grant writing
  • Help develop a database that will include institutional data and information related to the museums public and educational programs, exhibitions, social impact, and institutional history
  • Perform essential database management tasks and assist with tracking grant proposal and reporting deadlines
  • Work closely with the Grants Manger and Development Assistant to craft donor acknowledgement letters
  • Additional writing and administrative duties as assigned

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will explore development career tracks in the museum world
  • Students will gain understanding of how the financial and logistical needs of an arts organization are addressed through grant awards, donations, fundraising events, and donor relations
  • Students will gain understanding of the life cycle of various foundation, corporate, and government grants from application to reporting
  • Students will develop professional writing, data management, and organizational skills
  • Students will have the opportunity to network and learn about career paths in the museum
Minimum Qualifications

Open to Humanities majors only (Art, Art History, English, History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Modern Languages, etc.)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Desire to work with children and the public.
  • Ease with digital work environments/willingness to learn computer applications will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) preferred
  • Prior experience in art education is an asset, but not necessary.
  • Academic knowledge or practical experience in performing the essential functions listed below.
  • Flexibility and curiosity with assignments
  • Pride and initiative in ones work.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must be a Florida resident.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Work Schedule

  • This is a one semester internship.
  • 10 to 12 weeks not to exceed 144 hours per semester.
  • PAMM's work week is typically M-F 9-5pm with occasional special events outside of normal business hours.
