The Talent and Culture Department at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an HR Data Analyst. About the Opportunity The role of an HR Data Analyst will support the Talent and Culture organization by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data related to all human resources functions. This role involves using data to create actionable insights, improve processes, and support decision-making for WVU's Talent & Culture team and leaders. The position will design and maintain dashboards, provide actionable insights, and generate ad hoc reports to support multiple departments. This role reports to the Director of HR Operations with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Office of Institutional Data and Analytics. What You'll Do Data Collection & Analysis:
- Collect, clean, and analyze HR-related data from various sources, including employee databases and HRIS systems and applications.
- Perform in-depth analysis of HR-related data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Apply statistical methods to analyze metrics and generate actionable insights.
Reporting & Dashboard Creation:
- Develop, maintain, and automate HR dashboards and reports to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as turnover rates, time-to-hire, employee engagement, and workforce diversity.
- Build data visualizations and translate them into actionable intelligence.
- Provide ad hoc reports and analysis to Talent and Culture leadership and business units as required.
- Ensure the accurate and timely delivery of reports to stakeholders.
HR Metrics & Insights:
- Monitor and analyze trends related to hiring, workforce demographics, and employee lifecycle.
- Translate HR data into insights and recommendations that drive business decisions and improve employee experiences.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement by leveraging data-driven insights.
Data Management & Integrity:
- Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of HR data through regular audits and validation.
- Manage data collection and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with data privacy and protection regulations.
- Work with IT to ensure HR systems are optimized for data extraction and reporting as well as needed support and testing for reporting enhancements.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with Talent and Culture's teams to understand data needs and support business goals.
- Present data findings and recommendations to leaders and other non-technical stakeholders in a clear, concise manner.
- Collaborate with Strategic HR partners to ensure alignment between data-driven insights and Talent and Culture's initiatives.
Process Improvement, Automation and Modernization:
- Identify opportunities to improve processes using data analytics and automation.
- Streamline reporting processes by automating recurring reports and analysis.
- Support Talent and Culture teams in implementing data-driven decision-making processes.
- Work closely with the Modernization Program to define and build data structures and reporting, while monitoring the quality and accuracy of converted data that will be needed to transition to the new ERP.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, or related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the following:
- Experience in organizational data analysis, data reporting or business intelligence
- Experience with data visualization tools and dashboard creation with preference to working experience with Tableau
- Strong proficiency in SQL database querying
- Experience with automated analyses and reproducible analytic products.
- Experience with human resources management systems with preference to working experience with Workday and Oracle based applications
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of HRIS systems and data management tools.
- Proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools, or similar platforms, including Tableau.
- Strong Excel skills, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis techniques.
- Ability to come up with solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets
- Ability to work on multiple priorities effectively and prioritize conflicting demands to meet pre-determined deadlines
- Familiarity with labor laws, compliance, and data privacy regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to be clear and concise
- Ability to translate complex technical data and concepts into actionable insights and easy-to-understand stories for broader audiences
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Self-starter with high quality execution and delivery
- Collaborative and team-oriented approach
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred experience with business intelligence development including AI experience
- Preference given to ERP system implementations experience
