Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Manager for Office of Information Technology ( OIT). Reporting to the Manager of Network Architecture and Applications, this position will work within Network Operations & Architecture, supporting large-scale, distributed, stable, fault-tolerant networks and systems that support the University's missions in Teaching & Learning, Research, and community outreach. Responsible for the overall design, management, and support of critical network architecture, such as routers, switches, etc.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Directs supervision of several technical staff.
  • Manages systems and services providing critical network services such as routing and switching
  • Scales and evolves systems sustainably, advocating for changes that improve reliability and agility
  • Develops and implements infrastructure supporting automated routines to improve service delivery times and quality assurance
  • Engages in and improve the whole lifecycle for both network infrastructure and supporting services
  • Maintains, monitors and improves systems and services for NOA and Enterprise Infrastructure.
  • Works with teams to support the automation of routine tasks such as reporting, provisioning, and monitoring.
  • Transfers knowledge with other staff and researchers.
  • Provides services including campus routing/switching, network monitoring, inter-campus connectivity, WAN site connectivity, Internet/Internet2 connectivity and Research Networking engagement.
  • Works on central network infrastructure in support of the University's network assets and the University community.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and 7 years of networking experience or equivalent education and experience in telecommunications, information technology, or computer information systems.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have excellent technical skills to properly diagnose and resolve problems created by multiple protocols, heterogeneous hardware, multiple transport technologies and general network traffic issues.
  • Must have strong leadership skills, the ability to make important decisions.
  • Excellent consulting and technical skills to lead technical staff.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment and handle constant interruptions.
  • Professional experience designing and maintaining networking equipment.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to handle multiple priorities and a large volume of technical problem resolution.
  • Must quickly learn, apply and document new technical knowledge and procedures.
  • Must work well with peers and senior staff in a team-oriented, cooperative spirit.
  • Comfortable working independently and owning a project, as well as working as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and a desire to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in a related field such as computer science.
  • 12+ years of networking experience.
