JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are searching for an Engineering Technologist to join our Electrical Power and Control Systems Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). We seek an individual to support the battery technologies group in their efforts to development and test electric powerplant systems, including the design, and validation of battery, motor, and high power electronics as well as evaluation of commercially available systems. This individual will play a key role in organizing and conducting high power and high voltage system testing.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

You will:

  • Plan and execute testing of battery and motor systems including cells, modules, packs, associated battery management electronics, electric motors and power converters

  • Draft test plans and standard operating procedures

  • Design, grow and maintain testing facilities and equipment calibration

  • Assemble and maintain a fleet of electric powerplants

  • Support limited field testing

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related discipline; 1+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required skills/experience areas include:

  • Experience planning test events, including the designs and fabrication of test fixtures and electronics

  • Understanding of dynamometer and high voltage sink/source operation

  • Knowledge of high-voltage hazards and mitigations

  • Proficient writing skills to prepare test procedures and reports

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, tools with the ability and willingness to perform basic computer tasks or learn computer programs

  • Ability to attain and hold a Secret level DOD security clearance

Preferred skills/experience area include:

  • Ability to express yourself and ideas successfully to others in order to provide understanding

  • Past success in providing ideas in written form for clear comprehension to an audience

  • Success in an office environment, where various forms of communication and organizational skills were crucial to be effective

  • Past experience working alongside a diverse group of people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds OR Previous success with collaborations in a diverse, multi-disciplinary, team-oriented culture

  • Demonstrated ability to work through a difficult problem, using proper steps to define and formulate ideas to reach a solution

Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process. This position will require periodic travel to remote locations in support of testing as part of a small team of researchers, engineers, and technologists.

**The proposed salary range may be impacted by geographic differential.**

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
