The Department of Pharmacology in the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio invites applications for a full-time, open-rank faculty position. Individuals with an outstanding record of innovative research and academic performance in areas of research broadly related to Pharmacology are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should complement existing strengths of the department that include neuroscience, substance use disorders, drug-receptor interactions, pain, aging, and cancer. They will receive a highly competitive start-up package and state-of-the-art laboratory space, with rank and salary commensurate with experience.

The Department of Pharmacology is currently the #11 ranked department in the country with our faculty being well-respected locally, nationally, and internationally. Our collegial and cooperative atmosphere provides an outstanding environment for success. The final candidate will be encouraged to interact with investigators in Departmental centers such as the Addiction Research Treatment & Training Center of Excellence, the Center for Biomedical Neuroscience, and the Center for Innovative Drug Discovery. In addition, the Department of Pharmacology has strong associations with the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies, the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's & Neurodegenerative Diseases, and the Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute.

In August 2024, the UT System Board of Regents authorized UT System to integrate UTSA and the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio into one unified institution, establishing a world-class university that integrates academic, research, and clinical. Driven by a vision for growth and impact, this merger will expand capacity to offer robust undergraduate and graduate programs, attract top-tier faculty and staff, develop innovative initiatives, and elevate transdisciplinary research to address the evolving needs of the region.

San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the U.S. with a low cost of living and excellent public and private schools. It has a beautiful historical downtown area featuring the Riverwalk with abundant entertainment and fine restaurants. It is also a gateway to the scenic Texas Hill Country with many recreational options.

Qualifications and application process

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with relevant postdoctoral experience. Applicants for the Assistant Professor position must have a record of achievement and demonstrate the potential to establish a robust externally funded research program. Applicants for an Associate or Full Professor position must have an established extramurally funded research program with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and national/international recognition.
