Overview

The incumbent must have good working knowledge of pneumatic systems, robots, vision systems, servo motors, including PLC programming, building systems including HVAC, chilled water, compressed air systems, utility systems and water treatment processes. A thorough understanding of raw material handling including conveyors, material and associated equipment. Understanding of electrical systems and equipment such as motors, motor control centers, transformers, switchgears, control equipment, and process instrumentation. Knowledge of manufacturing operations including product and employee safety, and OSHA standards. Strong leadership, customer service, project management and organizational skills are essential to effectively complete job responsibilities. In addition, attention to detail, effective communications, ability to plan and organize, and lead and inspire others.



Responsibilities

    Day-to-day supervision of assigned maintenance crews
  • Responsible for coordinating maintenance activities for plant equipment, building and grounds, including tentative and preventative maintenance, work orders/requests, and project work.
  • Must be self-motivated to follow up on maintenance activities.
  • When planned actions do not match actual results, assess the realistic nature of the task, coach to completion when appropriate.
  • Provides technical assistance to General Maintenance Mechanics (GMM's)
  • On-site training resource for developing skills of GMM's.
  • Attend meetings with Process Engineers and management to understand opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Develop technical standardization opportunities for the plant, assist in defining requirements for new equipment, and reducing storeroom inventory.
  • knowledge of all plant equipment and processes as each area is closely dependent upon the other.
  • Writes work orders and procedures as required to correct malfunctions or improve equipment or processes, both on the short and long-term range.
  • Recommends spare parts, instrumentation and supplies, etc., as necessary. Advise the Storeroom Supervisor on stock levels. Recommends stores additional and reductions to maintain proper inventory of parts and supplies used in specific areas of accountability.
  • May specify, design or program maintenance related items. Assists in determining standards for equipment, components, design, and programming. Keeps software, parts, and documentation up to date.
  • KPI's measured for success: Equipment downtime, mean time between failure (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), and equipment reliability
  • Works with vendors to find solutions to improve reliability of equipment and helps find lower cost alternatives
  • Works with contractors to complete tasks outside the scope of the GMM's
  • Works with Maintenance Planner daily to ensure that jobs are being completed as required


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, and a minimum of 3 years' supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and practical hands-on experience in a manufacturing facility along with the completion of a certificate program. Project management experience a plus.
  • The incumbent must be able to work and communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the plant organization and with Vitro customers and suppliers and be knowledgeable of plant security and confidentiality policies.
  • The incumbent must be self-motivated, reliable, and able to work productively and efficiently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be available for call-ins on shifts or weekends to assist with plant shutdown work.
  • Must have the ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Demonstrate success with past projects and the ability to translate skills into glass manufacturing.
  • Acts as a SME of equipment throughout facility
