Job Summary

The position performs high volume point of care ultrasounds (POCUS) procedures in the Mount Zion GI clinic and future sites. The sonographer will work independently to perform, process images, prepare reports, and archive in the appropriate system. The individual will work with medical faculty/leadership to design, develop, and maintain new/existing scan protocols, based on requested studies. They will be responsible for quality control of the US equipment, supplies, and work with appropriate vendors and clinic leadership for routine maintenance. Additionally, they will be the point person for any department of Radiology inquiries/collaborations regarding US including regulatory readiness. Participates in performance improvement activities in the department. Requires active ARDMS status and previous ultrasound experience.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $77.74 - $96.64 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Graduate of a formal accredited ultrasound training program in an approved school.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays and on-call shifts.
  • Requires ARDMS credentials in Abdomen and OB/Gyn specialties at minimum.
  • Requires (2-5) years UCSF experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, and or equivalent experience in a similar Ultrasound department at UCSF. OR
  • New hires who meet criteria of equivalent experience and credentials held must also have equivalent Senior Sonographer skills; the Senior Diagnostic Medical Sonographer title may be granted at the discretion of the Section Chief and Section Supervisor.
  • Maintain ARDMS credential(s) according to the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography's criteria.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and variable shifts per department needs.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Recent work experience in an acute care setting.

License/Certification


  • RDMS in Abdominal and OB/GYN Sonography
  • BLS - Basic Life Support
