DEA's Boise, ID office is seeking a Bridges and Structures Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support transportation and transit related projects as part of our Bridge and Structures team. In this role our Bridges and Structures EIT will perform, under immediate supervision of assigned Engineer(s), structural analyses and develop design calculations using AASHTO and other design codes for different bridge, transportation and transit structural systems. As part of a design team, will contribute to the development of construction documents, design calculations, and reports. Typical projects will include a variety of concrete and steel bridges; along with retaining walls, noise walls, and other miscellaneous structural elements.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:



  • Design of structural elements including bridges, retaining walls, and noise walls
  • Assist with bridge projects by creating concept reports, and structure selection reports
  • Assist with the development of construction documents including plans and details
  • Develop engineering quantity and cost estimates
  • Assist with the development of project specifications
  • Review contractor submittals during construction
  • Assist with bridge rehabilitation and maintenance projects
  • Develop bridge load rating calculations
  • Coordination with other project disciplines including roadway, hydraulics, and traffic.


Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with Structural Emphasis
  • Licensed Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to obtain within 6 months (dependent on testing availability due to pandemic)
  • 0-4 years of applicable bridge design experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with a heavy emphasis on Excel and Word
  • Knowledge in drafting software applications such as Microstation/ORD, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D
  • Applicant must have a valid driver's license and clear motor vehicle report


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and representative state DOT bridge design standards
  • Proficiency in current structural design software applications, with an emphasis on bridge design software, such as CSiBridge, Midas, SAP2000, PG Super, or Conspan.
