Job Summary:

The Office of Data, Academic Planning & Institutional Research (DAPIR) is seeking a Data Scientist to join our Institutional Research and Decision Support team. The position will play a key role in preparing data sets and using data science techniques for advanced analytics. This Data Scientist will work with individuals across DAPIR and the institution, building partnerships to promote the deliberate use of data across the institution.


Responsibilities:
Contributes to a research agenda set by a lead researcher by preparing data sets, analyzing them using data science techniques, and presenting the results. May work independently or as part of a team.

  • 30% Prepares data sets for analysis including cleaning/quality assurance, transformations, restructuring, and integration of multiple data sources
  • 30% Independently identifies and implements appropriate data science techniques to find data patterns and answer research questions chosen by the lead researcher including data visualization, statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining
  • 20% Organizes and automates project steps for data preparation and analysis
  • 10% Composes and assembles reproducible workflows and reports to clearly articulate patterns to researchers and/or administrators
  • 10% Documents approaches to address research questions and contributes to the establishment of reproducible research methodologies and analysis workflows

Education:

Preferred
Master's Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.


Qualifications:

REQUIRED:
- Proficiency in programming languages (Python, R) and querying relational databases (SQL)
- Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, modeling, clustering, decision trees, predictive modeling, etc. and can demonstrate real-world educational application of these techniques
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative and dynamic work environment

PREFERRED:
- 3-5 years of professional work experience
- Skilled at managing multiple priorities
- Experience in higher education administration
- Experience across multiple functional areas of data, such as finance, HR, and student


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $70,000 Maximum $110,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
