JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor in Aquatic Ecophysiology or Ecotoxicology

JOB PURPOSE:

The Department of Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a tenure-track position in aquatic ecophysiology or ecotoxicology at the rank of Assistant Professor. We invite applications from candidates using diverse systems and approaches to integrate insights from both ecology and physiology to understand the impacts of environmental changes on organisms. This interdisciplinary position will enhance our understanding of complex interactions between environmental stressors and physiological responses and will collaborate with our diverse department and with agency partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We envision an independent researcher who will develop a strong, extramurally funded research program related to aquatic animal physiology and/or ecotoxicology, and who will excel in a highly collaborative university setting. We seek a colleague who is committed to participating in the community through teaching, research, service, and undergraduate and graduate student mentoring. The individual will be expected to contribute to the academic missions of the Department of Zoology & Physiology and to other programs on campus including the interdepartmental Ph.D. program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in undergraduate and graduate programs and should be committed to mentoring and to supporting a diverse university community.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

The candidate will be expected to participate in appropriate service activities including, but not limited to, serving on departmental, college and university committees, and graduate committees. These service functions are in addition to discipline-related service activities at the national and international levels.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in ecology, evolution, physiology, biology, or closely related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High potential for an extramurally funded research program
  • Demonstrated capacity for effective teamwork and collaboration

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Multiple first-author publications, including in high impact journals.
  • Post-doctoral training in a related field by the time of hire.
  • Evidence of ability to secure external grant funding in support of research.
  • High potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct cutting edge research with a focus on aquatic ecophysiology or ecotoxicology
  • Demonstrated commitment to training students
