Our Director of Nursing is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of all aspects of the adults unit(s) nursing care delivery system. Director of Nursing will assure quality nursing care, serve actively and constructively as member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, support the organization and program treatment philosophy; and ensure the safety and well-being of patients as well as ensure programs are in compliance with regulatory requirements.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Provides leadership through assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of direct patient care services provided in each clinical area.
  • Assures compliance with all standards and policies of the Facility.
  • Provides communication of changing clinical or reportable conditions to appropriate administrative personnel.
  • Supports and participates in hospital-wide Quality Improvement activities.
  • Plans and delivers nursing education to both nursing personnel and hospital as a whole.
  • Serves as a clinical resource person to staff members in their daily activities.
  • Creates and maintains effective communication and integration of services among units/departments.
  • Directs and participates in the development, implementation and communication of goals, policies, guidelines and standards for the nursing department in accordance with the institutions policies and objectives, and JCAHO, HCFA and licensing standards.
  • Promotes a safe and positive working environment
  • Directs nursing performance improvement activities and nursing competencies
  • Assists RN Managers and HR Department with hiring and selection processes through screening, interviewing and making recommendations for hire. Anticipates staffing trends and needs and proactively offers staffing solutions.
  • Oversees the productive and efficient staffing of units based on a thorough understanding of the correlation between patient census and FTE standards; ensures RN Managers and Scheduler work effectively together on the staffing function.
  • Provides clinical supervision and assists staff in planning patient care
  • Provides feedback to staff on performance, reinforcing desired behaviors and teambuilding efforts and intervening promptly in deficiencies to reduce turnover rate and formal performance measures.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and sets a strong therapeutic tone for patient interventions; works diligently to reduce the occurrences of physical restraint and seclusion of patients.
  • Reviews safety, risk management, infection control and incident reports to identify and discuss trends with nursing staff.
  • Reviews and analyzes patient chart data for nursing improvement opportunities in the areas of programming and core delivery
  • Performs personnel management activities including direct staff supervision, orientation/training/development, performance management and employee relations functions; adheres to HR policies/procedures, and applicable employment laws, standards and regulations
  • Partner with Clinical Therapy leadership and Physician team ensure cohesion in daily workflow and optimal programmatic implementation in order to provide the best possible care to patients
  • Assisting in staffing as needed
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • This position requires a current, valid Alaska RN license with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Master's Degree preferred).
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in nursing management role required.

  • 21 years or older
