Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY: Provides Art therapy, Music therapy, Recreational Therapy or Drama Therapy Services to patients in one or more programs of the hospital within the therapeutic milieu. Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning, implementing and evaluating individualized treatment plans. The Activity Therapist also provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and activities of daily living. Qualifications JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, adolescents, pre adolescents and adults. Education: Bachelors Degree in some form of Recreational Therapy or related field required; Master's Degree in any form of Recreational Therapy or Social Work preferred. Experience: One year experience working with a psychiatric mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting. Licensure/Certification: Expressive/Recreation Therapy Certification (or is certification eligible) by the professional organization in the area(s) of expertise preferred. Lifesaving and/or water safety instructor certification desirable Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of case management, discharge planning, group leadership skills, age specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management, family therapy theory and practice. Knowledge of theory and practice of psychosocial assessments. Able to work cooperatively with other hospital staff and involved community agencies. Good organization skills, as well as oral and written communication skills.
