Director Radiation Oncology and Medical Dosimetrist

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Health Care Administration or related field required.

2. Board Certified Dosimetry

EXPERIENCE:

1. Five (5) years of experience in dosimetry and/or radiation therapy

2. Three (3) years of management level experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Master's Degree in Business, Health Care Administration or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Eight years of experience in the health care field

2. Experience in an academic environment

3. Experience with APEx certification (or equivalent) and quality management systems in a clinical oncology setting.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Dosimetry Planning and Clinical Practice (60%)

• Treatment Planning: Design and develop advanced radiation therapy treatment plans in collaboration with Radiation Oncologists, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines and patient-specific needs.
• Safety and Risk Management: Review and analyze treatment plans for patient safety, addressing risks, and implementing corrective actions where needed.
• Patient Throughput: Ensure timely delivery of treatment plans, coordinating patient priorities to prevent delays in treatment.
• Process Standardization: Collaborate with the Chief of Medical Dosimetry and physician leadership to standardize radiation dose objectives, enhancing the quality and consistency of dosimetry services across the enterprise.
• Peer Review and Process Improvement: Lead peer review initiatives and continuous process improvement efforts focused on dosimetry accuracy, consistency, and patient safety.
• Educational Contributions: Leverage experience as the former President of the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists to contribute to training programs and mentoring junior dosimetrists, enhancing educational opportunities across the WVU Radiation Oncology network.

2. Operational Excellence and Leadership (40%)

• Operational Oversight: Lead clinical operations ensuring the effective integration of best practices, quality standards, and regulatory compliance.
• Strategic Initiatives: Work with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing radiation oncology services across WVU's eight locations.
• Quality Assurance Leadership: Drive the department's efforts in quality management and certification, including leading the ASTRO APEx Accreditation process, and ensuring the continuous improvement of clinical outcomes.
• RO-ILS Implementation: Oversee the implementation of the Radiation Oncology Incident Learning System (RO-ILS) and conduct root cause analysis for process improvements and enhanced patient safety.
• Revenue Cycle and Efficiency: Evaluate operational workflows and revenue cycle processes to identify inefficiencies, recommending and implementing evidence-based improvements.

3. Quality Assurance and Accreditation

• Accreditation Program for Excellence (APEx): Lead efforts to acquire and maintain APEx certification for the WVU Radiation Oncology network, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of care.
• Compliance: Monitor compliance with state and federal regulations, continuously improving clinical and operational practices to meet or exceed benchmarks.
• Continuous Improvement: Implement standardized quality assurance measures, including ongoing process audits, treatment evaluations, and root cause analysis for any discrepancies or adverse incidents.

4. Education, Mentorship, and Training

• Educational Program Development: Facilitate ongoing training for staff, residents, and students, focusing on emerging radiation oncology technologies and best practices.
• Mentorship: Utilize expertise from leadership roles within medical dosimetry associations to mentor staff, promoting professional growth and development within the department.
• Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Engage with external partners and internal teams to promote a culture of collaboration, education, and continual learning within radiation oncology.
