Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Nursing Professional Development Generalist for Emergency Department.

Norfolk General Hospital's Emergency Department is a 53-bed unit. Our Trauma One Facility is equipped to handle a variety of medical emergencies, and approximately 10% are Trauma related.

**Sentara Norfolk General Emergency Department is one of only 94 in the United States to receive the Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses' Association this year.

**The Lantern Award honors "exceptional and innovative leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research."

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the region's first Magnet Hospital. It is a 525-bed medical center, serves as a primary teaching facility, and home to the area's only Level 1 Trauma Center within a 126-mile region.

The Nursing Professional Development Generalist assumes operational responsibility for the development and implementation of staff education within designated population(s). Functions as a learning facilitator supporting orientation, practice transitions, and continuing education. Provides foundational education competency/skills validation to successfully move nurses from novice to beginner/competent practitioners. Accountable for defined aspects of staff development, continuing education, and professional development of nursing staff to improve quality, safety, and patient outcomes. Supports system and hospital performance improvement and evidence-based practice projects and initiatives.

Requirements:

  • BSN- Bachelor of Nursing Required
  • MSN preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Nursing Professional Development (NPD) or specialty professional nursing certification preferred.
  • ACLS Preferred
  • BLS Required
  • 2 years of clinical experience required.
  • Acute Care experience preferred.
  • Registered Nurse Licensure

Job Summary

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist promotes professional development application of nursing clinical expertise in specified patient populations. Serves as an expert clinician, consistently serving as a clinical resource to staff. Recognized as a mentor; works to develop staff from beginner to expert status. Critically analyzes care delivered in identified service area against evidence based practice standards and seeks ways to improve outcomes. Accountable for defined aspects of staff development, continuing education and professional development of nursing staff. Leads, facilitates, and/or participates in interprofessional quality initiatives, implementing evidence based nursing practices, shared decision making, and other educational plans and activities.

Master's Level Degree in Nursing or other applicable field required.

Doctoral Degree Preferred.

Must be certified at time of hire in specialty area of department assigned or CNL or NPD Specialist Certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support required for Intermediate Care and Critical care units. Nursing Professional Development certification must be obtained within 3 years of hire and must be maintained thereafter.

DLD - Doctorate Level Degree, MLD - Master's Level Degree (Required) Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI, Registered Nurse (RN) Single State - Nursing License - North Carolina, Registered Nurse (RN) Single State - Nursing License - Virginia Department of Health Professionals (VADHP), Registered Nurse License (RN) - Nursing License - Compact/Multi-State License Nursing
