Software Engineer

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research & Technology Evaluation: Explore, assess, and recommend new technologies for adoption by the Navy to enhance software capabilities and operations.
  • Software Development: Design and develop new software solutions using Java Spring, Python, Ansible, and BASH to address program requirements.
  • Linux Expertise: Utilize at least 2 years of experience with Linux (basic OS knowledge and shell scripting), preferably with Red Hat or its derivatives.
  • Containerization: Work with Docker and Podman containers, bringing a minimum of 2 years of experience to the table.
  • Full Software Development Lifecycle: Contribute to all stages of the software development lifecycle, including configuration management and adhering to best coding practices.
  • Production-Quality Software: Write, test, and deploy high-quality software solutions that meet production standards.
  • High Availability & Failover Solutions: Develop robust, high-availability systems using Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes.
  • COTS Integration: Integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) tools, including open-source products, and manage API-driven integration efforts.
  • Unit Testing & Integration: Conduct thorough unit testing to ensure software components are ready for integration into larger systems and participate in system-wide integration testing.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Attend and actively contribute to various technical and program meetings to track project progress and ensure alignment with team goals.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Linux (basic OS and shell scripting skills; Red Hat or derivatives preferred).
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Docker and Podman containers.
  • Strong background in the full software development lifecycle, including writing, testing, and deploying production-quality software.
  • Experience with Java Spring, Python, Ansible, BASH, Kubernetes, and other relevant technologies.
  • Familiarity with integrating COTS tools and open-source products, especially in an API-driven environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration.
  • Familiarity with high-availability and failover systems.
  • Experience in a defense-related environment or working with government clients is a plus.

Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics
  • Minimum of 2 years experience using Linux (basic OS comprehension and basic shell scripting), preferably Red Hat or derivatives
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Docker/Podman containers
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the software development lifecycle, including configuration management, good coding practices
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in writing, testing, and deploying production-quality software
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • Agile experience
  • Analytical and innovative outlook on software and systems
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices
  • Experience with Ansible
  • Knowledge of Agile/DevOps methodologies
  • Knowledge of running containers in a Kubernetes environment
  • Distributed, system-of-system experience
  • Knowledge and experience using virtual machine platforms
  • Basic knowledge of networking in Linux
  • Technical problem-solving ability for large and complex software systems
