Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Nutritionist
III, Per Diem (Metabolic Dietary) for
NJMS- Department of Pediatrics, Division of Genetics.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides nutrition therapy for patients with inborn errors of metabolism utilizing ongoing laboratory data, food records, and growth patterns as the basis for determining dietary recommendations.
- Interprets medical, laboratory and dietary parameters to calculate prescriptions for special diets and medical foods.
- Analyzes diets for research and clinical studies using Metabolic Pro diet analysis software.
- Maintains records of patients' dietary prescriptions, analyses, growth and nutritional status, and education/counseling sessions.
- Participates as an interdisciplinary team member of the Metabolic Team.
- Provides consultative services to outside agencies and physicians for patients who are hospitalized or have special medical needs (e.g., PKU) in conjunction with the metabolic geneticist.
- Provides patient education (for patients of the Metabolic Clinic) on both an inpatient and outpatient service basis and develops new approaches for educating patients and families.
- Participates in division-based research and quality improvement projects.
- Assists in educating rotating nutrition, nursing, genetic counseling, medical students, and residents about diet therapy of genetic metabolic disorders.
- Works closely with the New Jersey Department of Health Newborn Screening Program to ensure all referred babies with abnormal newborn screening are managed appropriately.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition or a related field plus registration by the American Dietetic Association. At least five (5) years of clinical/practical experience, required. Demonstrated human relations, computer literacy.

Certifications/Licenses |
- The incumbent must be a Registered Dietician with the American Dietetic Association; and possess current certification with the State of New Jersey or obtain certification within one month of employment.
ADA Certification in a specific area of specialization may be preferred.- Credentials Required: Registration by the American Dietetic Association
