Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate II for
NJMS- Cancer Center Building, The primary purpose of the Research Associate II position is to under direction of the PI, perform independent aging research and assist in lab management, mouse colony maintenance and technical support. The current focus of the Yadav lab is to investigate how nutrients affect aging progression and develop precision interception approaches to target metabolic vulnerabilities in aging cells. Specific tasks may include all lab management related tasks, administrative tasks, training technicians and junior scientists, responsibility of a specific research project, monitor mouse breeding and genotyping, assist with mouse surgery and pre-clinical studies, tissue collection, gain- and loss-of function genetic screening, sample preparation for transcriptomic, epigenetic, proteomic and metabolomic analysis, cell culture, molecular work, and record keeping.
Among the key duties of this position:
- Performs various research and technical operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of a laboratory; may conduct independently or as assigned specialized research for a particular project, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions. This includes assigned specialized research relative to ongoing investigatory activities under the direction of the PI and the management of mouse colonies as required.
- Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the clinical and research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
- Under the PI supervision, assists in the conducting of continuous program of research and development regarding the analytical and instrumentation functions of the laboratory, participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revision where necessary and proposing new procedures where required. May assist in organizing, leading and conducting highly specialized research activity for a particular research project.
- Manages lab daily activities, including updating inventories daily and maintaining lab instrument/equipment in good operation status.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Ph. D. Degree or equivalent in a relevant science, or a Master's Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Experience in assisting with writing grants, fellowships, manuscripts and scientific reports.
- A record of excellence and productivity in research and, the ability to work independently.
- Competent in standard laboratory techniques and in vivo mouse experiments, including genetically engineered mouse models and experiments related to aging research.
