Research Associates General Duties-

Research Associates contribute to the success of our research projects and networks by managing the day-to-day operations as well as coordinating the activities of project or network teams.

  • Works closely with the Finance department and Investigators on project contracting, scopes of work, resourcing, and tracking of spending on research grants. Responsible for aligning resources, budget, and study timelines.
  • Conducts study startup and closeout activities.
  • Recruits, enrolls, manages, and compensates study participants in research activities. This may include health system or individual participants. May also facilitate the engagement of study advisors and committees.
  • Coordinates the work of project team members to bring alignment and shared understanding of project scope, timelines, deliverables, and expectations.
  • Works closely with research partners and partner site research associate to obtain necessary information and input to achieve project deliverables. Fosters a collaborative partnership to support the project's success.
  • Schedules and facilitates project meetings; including agenda setting, notetaking, and action item tracking.
  • Creates and maintains a study timeline to track and report progress on project deliverables. Identify, mitigate, and escalate project risks and issues, communicate project status, and negotiate changes in project scope, resources, or timeline to ensure that the funder and the partner are satisfied with project deliverables.
  • Prepares and submits reports of project progress to the funder and to research partners.
  • Tracks dissemination activities for the project. Prepares and submits dissemination products (e.g. conference abstracts, posters, presentations; scientific manuscripts; blog posts; newsletter blurbs; etc.).
  • Demonstrates an understanding of quantitative and qualitative research. Tracks data deliverables and ensures the data activities are in alignment with study protocol(s) and data sharing agreement(s). Participates in QC process for data transfers.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of health services research and study design. Participates in translating and operationalizing study aims within research protocols.
  • Responsible for the administrative oversight of research regulatory and compliance principles under the direction of Investigators. Includes the preparation and management of IRB protocols, interpretation and application of compliance policies, and development of study agreements.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Additional Research Associates II Duties. All duties listed above plus:

  • Manages day-to-day operations of complex research projects and networks. Exercises judgement in taking independent action and seeks advice when appropriate.
Requirements

For all Research Associates:

  • Demonstrated experience in complex project management and working on a project team.
  • Working knowledge of medicine, public health, and health services issues relevant to the application of research.
  • Working knowledge of statistical theory and hypothesis testing, quantitative or qualitative analysis methods, and database management techniques relevant to the design, conduct, and analysis of research projects.
  • Working knowledge of research and project management software preferred (e.g., REDCap, EndNote, Zotero, Smartsheet, Microsoft Suite, Twilio, etc.).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skillls
  • Strong potential for self-direction/self-management skills with the ability to work independently and effectively as a sole contributor and as part of a team.
  • Clear and professional communicator.
  • Able to work is a fast-paced, complex environment. Adaptable and pro-active orientation.
  • Detail-oriented and organized approach to project management.

Additional required qualifications for Research Associates II -

  • A Master's degree in research or health-related degree is required (degree or additional educational and training must be in a social, behavioral, health services, or other medical or public health field appropriate to the specific field of research required by the position).
  • A minimum of 5 years of health-related research experience in full cycle project managmenet (budgets, tasks, deliverables, tracking and delegating)
  • Experience working with external partners preferred.
  • Experience managing a prime award preferred.

Work Location and Travel Requirements

OCHIN is 100% remote organization with no physical corporate office location. Employees work remotely from home and many of our positions also support our member organizations on-site for new software installations. Nationwide travel is determined based on OCHIN business needs. Please inquire during the interview process about travel requirements for the position.

Base Pay Overview

The typical offer range for this role is minimum to midpoint, with the midpoint ($77,235 - $96,544) representing the average pay in a national market scope for this position. Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual salary offer will consider a wide range of factors directly relevant to this position, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, responsibility, and experience, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
