The Salvation Army Midland Division Headquarters located in St. Louis, Missouri, is looking for a Southeastern Missouri Service Extension Area Representative. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a stable and accessible Salvation Army presence that provides hope and healing through its programming and services in the Southeastern Missouri Region (14 counties) by cultivating meaningful relationships in the community that promotes volunteer engagement and client accessibility.

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, with starting pay of $22- $24 per hour.

Essential Functions




  1. Recruits, trains, develops, and supports current and new Service Unit Committees and general volunteers; ensuring all 14 counties have a Salvation Army presence; manage volunteer database for area
  2. Manages the Christmas Kettle Campaign(s) for the service area by promoting community ownership over and engagement in the campaign and utilization of divisional tools. Promotes special fund-raising activities as well.
  3. Cultivates and maintains relationships with local businesses, foundations, and donors, working towards an "ask" for financial support and volunteer engagement. Acts as Salvation Army representative at United Way, EFSP, and foundation meetings where required.
  4. In conjunction with the Associate Divisional Director of Service Extension, provides basic social services training and consultation to unit volunteers. Assists with program reviews.
  5. Monitors Service Extension Unit expenditures versus their budget allocations on a regular basis. Ensures that Service Extension Unit volunteers adhere strictly to fiscal guidelines, including the approval of special project proposals prior to submission to Divisional Headquarters.
  6. Provides advice and assistance in responding to disasters in cooperation with Emergency Disaster Service.

Minimum Qualifications

Related bachelor's degree with two (2) years' experience in related fields, or other combinations of education and experience with at least one year of supervisory experience. Previous development experience and/or social services experience, preferred. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, and enjoyment of working with others and willingness to support The Salvation Army mission. Must become familiar with all Salvation Army functions and programs supported by service extension. Team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Knowledge of area resources and opportunities a plus. Requires a valid drivers' license and pass The Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Report check.

Travel:

Position is remote (must live within the served counties) but will require regular travel (up to 90% travel) within the area served.

Physical and Working Conditions:

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment including using a computer, answering phones, etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. However, during a response to a disaster, the work environment will most likely reflect the affected area. Working outdoors will reflect seasonal weather, and the initial response could require intensive manual labor operations.
