GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for scheduling appointments and procedures for patients in a professional, confidential, efficient and caring manner. Collects demographic and financial information from patients at the time of scheduling. Collaborates with other staff to contribute to timely, quality patient care and achieve customer service goals. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Interviews patients in person and by phone about patient demographic and financial information and enters in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) ensuring data accuracy, completeness and confidentiality, as assigned. 3. *Gathers all information (demographics/insurance)at the time of scheduling. 4. *Answers all calls in a courteous and helpful manner; takes complete and accurate messages and relays to appropriate personnel. 5. *Enters patient data and appointment information into the computer system; maintains accurate patient logs. 6. *Processes orders for availability received by telephone or fax. 7. Responsible for maintaining up to date department schedules. 8. Completes daily task lists as assigned. 9. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 10. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned. 11. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk "*". Attach Addendum for positions with slightly different roles or work-specific differences as needed. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans are preferred. 2. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation to facilitate typing patient information. 3. Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques. 4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 5. Skill in operating a computer, photocopier, multi-line telephone system and fax machine. 6. Skill in customer service. 7. Skill in verbal communication, written instructions, problem solving and attention to detail. 8. Ability to work as a team member and maintain effective working relationships with staff and providers, as well as, external constituencies. 9. Ability to type 35 words a minute minimum. 10. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 11. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes. 12. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills. 13. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information. 14. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 15. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalency required. Prior pre-authorization, coding or medical billing experience required. Minimum of three(3) years work experience in a medical environment preferred. Minimum of three (3) years experience in scheduling, pre-authorization and registration preferred. Bi-lingual preferred. |
