Sentry is seeking a Portfolio Manager- Alternative Investments to be a key contributor to the management of assigned investment portfolios with primary focus on alternative investments (e.g., venture capital and private equity, private placements, real estate, commodities, hedge funds). This role is a hybrid position, located in our Stevens Point, WI office and is not eligible for a remote location.
What You'll Do As a Portfolio Manager- Alternative Investments, you will:
- Source, screen and conduct diligence of opportunities in accordance with existing strategy, expectations/goals and underwriting standards. Contribute meaningfully to the ultimate selection (or non-selection) of investment managers and opportunities.
- Contribute to the development of sourcing, screening and diligence process and underwriting standards.
- Monitor Sentry's alternative investment portfolios and investments, preparing routine and ad hoc reports and analysis.
- Meet regularly (telephonically or in person) with investment managers and other key industry constituents (internal and external).
- Integrate and evaluate alternative data, working toward goals which best meet the investment objectives of Sentry Insurance.
- Conducts analysis, investigations and bespoke projects related to sourcing, screening, selection, managers, funds/opportunities, portfolio companies and processes as necessary and presents or discusses with managers (internal and external).
- Create pacing/commitment plans and diligence schedules that are consistent with annual commitment amounts and expected fund-raising.
Additionally, you will:
- Monitor and research macroeconomic, demographic, political and other situations that may impact the portfolio and investment selection. Actively incorporate findings into sourcing, screening and diligence responsibilities. Actively engage in portfolio and macroeconomics discussions.
- Attend meetings and conferences throughout the year to deepen understanding and awareness of alternative investment opportunities and risks.
- Gain knowledge of various investments by participating in meetings and conference calls with general managers, market update calls, and attending selected industry conferences.
- Operate independently within overall investment guidelines and processes. Otherwise, operate under the direction and supervision of the AVP-Alternative Investments and (if assigned) guidance from senior team members.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned from time to time.
What it Takes
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience, MBA preferred
- Minimum 5 years of related work experience
- Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst certification, preferred
- Chartered Financial Analyst certification, preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge of alternative investment strategies within Sentry's portfolio
- Background in macroeconomics, financial analysis, accounting, statistical analysis, and portfolio management theory
- Possess analytical, research and judgement skills
- Ability to prioritize and work under time constraints
- Human relations and communications skills
- Associate must have the ability to travel as necessary to satisfactorily complete their job responsibilities as assigned
