What you'll do

Our Viasat Beam team is the design system team here at Viasat, in charge of maintaining and developing a collection of React and Vanilla JS component libraries and tools crafted to set the visual and behavioral standard for front-end components at Viasat. Other front-end application teams at Viasat consume our tools for them to build front-end applications and experiences with a unified design and brand language at a rapid and reusable pace.


The day-to-day

As a Software Engineer Intern on our team, you'll have an opportunity to see the full development cycle of what a frontend library looks like in production and gain hands-on experience! You will be embedded directly within the development team and will work with designers to turn design specifications into reusable, production-ready React/Next.js & Vanilla JS components within the library. You will also be responsible for maintaining, documenting, and supporting components within the Beam team.

Internship Program Details:

  • You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.
  • Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.
  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.

What you'll need

  • Education Requirements:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026

Internship Dates:

  • You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:
  • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 - August 15th, 2025
  • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 - September 12th, 2025

Additional Requirements:

  • Prior knowledge and experience working with TypeScript and/or ES5 Javascript
  • Prior knowledge and experience working with Sass
  • Prior knowledge and experience working with Next JS and/or React JS
  • Prior knowledge and experience working with HTML5 and/or CSS3

What will help you on the job

  • Experience with build tools like webpack, roll up, vite etc.
  • Experience with NX or other Monorepo tools
  • Passionate about front end web development

Salary range

$20.91 - $56.97 / hourly.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly
