Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II for the Institute for Health ( IFH) within Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences ( RBHS).

The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist II is to be responsible for the management of a medium-sized laboratory area. Designs and conducts highly specialized, technical research.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Performs various research and technical operations independently or as assigned, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
  • Assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows, lower-level professionals and technicians in analysis, data management, etc. to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions.
  • Assists with the preparation of proposals, formal applications and justifications for grant applications.
  • Compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations pertinent to research activity.
  • Maintain expertise in handling large datasets, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance databases, as well as survey data.
  • Engage in scientific writing to develop statistical analysis plans and document methods and results of analyses for various research projects.
  • Conduct data management and analysis using SAS or other statistical software, including performing data extractions, cleaning, and integration.
  • Draft tables, figures, and methods and results sections for research manuscripts and reports.
  • Develop and maintain statistical analysis plans (SAP) and accompanying documentation for feasibility and funded studies.
  • Participate in study planning sessions to inform research design and statistical approaches.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience, or a bachelor's degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience.

  • Experience working with healthcare claims data is required.
