Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (
SEBS) Educational Opportunity Fund (
EOF) is seeking part-time lecturers (
PTL) to teach Critical Thinking. Candidates will possess a Master's Degree, be familiar with topics taught in Introduction to Philosophy, Political Science, Logical Reasoning, Debate, and related areas. The
PTL must have experience teaching at the college-level and have worked with diverse student populations.
This course Critical Thinking engages analytical thought to assist students with dissecting the components of arguments to assist with interpretation and gaining an individual perspective of the argument. Students are introduced to reasoning tools that facilitate understanding and learning how to evaluate the quality of the reasoning behind an argument or belief. Students will analyze arguments, formal and informal fallacies, and consistency of logic in given statements.
PTL's will:
*Deliver instruction in accordance with the learning objectives set for the course, including practical skills, methods, theories, and techniques in a classroom setting
*Serve as primary developer and manager of the course syllabus, materials, and lesson plans, using the university template
*Participate in meetings with students and administration, if and when necessary
*Facilitate peer assessment and encourage discussion and constructive criticism in class
*Assess student work, including but not limited to, grading assignments, quizzes, and exams, as well as assigning projects and papers
*Submit attendance and grades promptly (in Canvas platform and to
EOF office administration)
*Offer formative feedback to student and
EOF administration regarding student academic performance and need for support or intervention
*Be knowledgeable and follow university student code of conduct
*Notify
EOF administration of student code of conduct violations and incidents that disrupts or cause an unsafe learning environment for students or faculty
*Adhere to institution-wide policies and procedures |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Master's degree. Philosophy, Rhetoric and Composition, Political Science, Environmental Science and related majors in the
STEM field. Teaching experience preferred. (Minimum of 3 years' experience in related field of study). |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work with minimal supervision. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, leadership, and peers. Ethical/Honest - evidence of the practice of a high level confidentiality. Knowledge of E-Learning platforms. Experience teaching in a diverse student population. Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language. |
Equipment Utilized |
Experience with web-based teaching resources and electronic media is desired. Microsoft Office Suite and Canvas platform for online instruction is Required. |
