Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate
III for the Institute for Health (
IFH) within Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (
RBHS).
The primary purpose of the Research Associate
III is to engage diverse community-dwelling older Chinese adults for aging-related research.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Participating in stakeholder meetings to identify optimal strategies for community engagement.
- Presenting on-going research projects at community events and health fairs, and engaging individual older Chinese adults for research participation (including follow-up).
- Recording and evaluating success of engagements and contacts.
- Verifying accuracy of an existing database of older adults through mail and email.
- Working with faculty to collect and enter respondent data for analysis.
- Reviewing data for integrity and adherence to study protocols.
- Assistance with study management and coordination.
- Assistance with preparing Mandarin-based surveys and communications.
- Special projects as assigned based on demonstrated knowledge and job skills.
- Serves as primary liaison with Chinese community organizations in NY/NJ/PA areas

Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Requires two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy
- Experience and familiarity with research on aging populations.
- Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
- Must be able to communicate effectively.
- Must have effective client service skills.

Preferred Qualifications |
- A minimum of four years (part- or full-time) working with communication, social work, or research involving older adults in the community setting.
- Fluent in Mandarin Chinese (read/write/speak); ability to also communicate in Cantonese is a plus but not required.
- Background in effective Mandarin communication; working knowledge of Salesforce and Excel.
- Track record of connecting with older adults; recruiting older adults into biomedical research studies; and/or exploring with older adults' issues of research trust/mistrust.
- Demonstrated record of working independently, learning on the job, and adapting to evolving work environments.
