Job Description

This position will specialize in the Alcohol and Drug Prevention Counseling Services at the Roo Wellness center apart of the Division of Student Affairs. This position provides a full range of generalist clinical services including individual, couple and group therapy, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, supervision, and training.

Essential Job Functions:

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Lead in the development of a campus strategic plan to address risks and concerns around substance use, mental health, sexual assault, and other behavioral issues.
  • Annually review strategic plan intervention process and outcomes and campus policies related to alcohol and drugs within leadership supervision under the Director of Counseling.
  • Work with campus administration to create report for a Biennial Review of the campus alcohol and drug program to meet federal requirements of the Drug-Free Schools Act.
  • Carry out direct and indirect prevention strategies to reduce the risks and harms of alcohol and drug issues.

Campus Involvement:

  • Coordinate and implement BASICS consultations (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) for alcohol, marijuana, and other drug referrals received from campus.
  • Facilitate special events, tabling, presenting to campus groups, social media campaigns, environmental strategies, etc.- according to the strategic plan and needs identified in the behavioral research.
  • Advisor to RooCovery student organization for students in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction and dependence.

Counseling Services:

  • Provides individual therapy, group counseling, crisis intervention, and clinical supervision, outreach, and consultation services to the university community.
  • Provides 22 client facing hours.
  • Provides clinical services to diverse client populations and whose clinical work, supervision, and community intervention is infused with ethical and multicultural competency and who demonstrates clear interest and commitment to all dimensions of diversity.

State Focus Involvement:

  • Serve as UMKC representative to a statewide Coalition, Missouri Partners in Prevention.
    • Attend monthly Coalition meetings.
    • Support a campus Coalition for prevention efforts on campus.
  • Implement an annual behavioral health survey, Missouri Assessment of College Health Behaviors, in conjunction with Partners in Prevention.
    • Facilitate Partners in Prevention grant budget operations and generate quarterly reports.
    • Complete annual surveys for Partners in Prevention including Campus and Community Policies and Laws survey, UMKC campus Coalition survey, and PIP membership survey.

Skills:

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills demonstrated in speaking, listening, and writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in developing outreach education programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift

  • Full-time, 40 hours a week
  • The position requires daytime, as well as some evening and weekend hours.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work and relevant licensure (or eligible to be licensed within 12 months) within the State of Missouri.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in substance abuse, prevention, and treatment.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$51,875 - $62,000 annually, commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
