JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Digital Foundry is the digital technology and business/industry organization for Penn State New Kensington's initiative. Its purpose is to serve as a regional hub and national model for the growth of ideas and learning and problem solving, to accelerate digital transformation for sustainable economic growth. It will provide educational training, a digital demonstration and learning lab and networking place for local businesses/industry, entrepreneurs, students, and educators to explore digital technologies and tools; define and demonstrate business value; and enhance workforce development. Penn State University - New Kensington is looking for motivated, collaborative, and creative freshman, sophomores, and juniors to become interns who are ready to apply their interest of business, innovation & entrepreneurship (I&E) and the 4th industrial revolution (industry 4.0) in a fast-paced, real-world environment

Job Duties

Employees in this role will work with the Digital Foundry team to implement IT opportunities and technologies for the Digital Foundry; implement software and hardware technology to bring digital transformation to the New Kensington region Research; and learn about new IT technologies (software and/or hardware) that can help transform our community. The part-time opening is designed to complement education of the PSNK student by working in 'real life' business environments. The employee will work with the Digital Foundry New Kensington (DFNK) team to:

  • Assist in the management of the Digital Foundry network including device connectivity and security.
  • Buildout factory fresh Laptops and Desktops with the Penn State University system image.
  • Aid with startup and maintenance of Digital Foundry IT systems, including phone, security, and IT.
  • Provide Digital Foundry IT support and maintenance of local networks and PC systems.
  • Provide information technology support to projects in the application of SMART manufacturing and Industry 4.0 suite of technologies.
Reporting Hierarchy

Employees will report to the Digital Foundry Staff (TBD). They work with the Digital Foundry personnel (PSNK staff and contractors) to define approaches, options, and recommendations. The Digital Foundry staff will also provide mentoring and guidance during the length of employment and will coordinate with the PSNK faculty advisor on learning objectives. A PSNK faculty advisor (TBD) assigned to help mentor the students. They will coordinate with the Digital Foundry to define appropriate learning objectives.
