JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Root Agroecology Lab at Penn State islooking for a research assistant for ongoing lab projects. Responsibilities for this temporary position will occur from December 2024 to June 2025.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Collect plant and soil samples from the field or greenhouses.
  • Support the design, maintenance, and/or setup of two field-research projects. This includes repairing and building highly customized research boxes designed for sampling roots.
  • Assist with the design and setup of a greenhouse experiment.
  • Perform lab assays on roots sampled from experiments/
  • Data entry and organization.
  • Transport of materials between field and campus research sites.
  • Communicate and coordinate with lab members by attending meetings and assisting with logistics for field, greenhouse, and lab activities.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in agroecology, plant sciences, or related fields.
  • The ability to work in a variety of conditions, including outdoors.
  • Willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and well organized.
  • Proven ability to engage in hands-on problem-solving and practical tasks.
  • This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. If the selected candidate is under the age of 21, they must also take an online University-sponsored driver training program.
