JOB SUMMARY:

Cox's Outside Plant Engineering & Construction department is responsible for building the network of the future our customers rely on for both residential and business needs. The Planner I serve as the primary owner and facilitator of our network construction activities. The Planner I is responsible for ensuring all aspects of the construction project are completed in a timely, cost-effective manner in accordance with Cox specifications. This role requires a high level of professional interaction with co-workers, homeowners, customers and other utility entities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible but not limited to managing/owning the completion of the following project types: Single Cox Business coax/fiber extensions, Residential coax extensions, various repair and maintenance projects & upgrade related projects.
  • Responsible for end-to-end planning, coordination, management and completion of planner-owned tasks and partnering for the coordination and execution of tasks owned by partner groups and entities.
  • Subscribing to the consistent use and application of the Master Contract Agreement, which governs the vendor relationship.
  • Facilitating and communicating project status updates as the business requires and ensuring completion of projects within a defined time period.
  • Ensuring all aspects of builds fall within Cox specifications in addition to state agency and local municipal requirements. This may include obtaining access and right-of-way agreements where applicable.
  • Coordinating permit and pole applications, joint-trench and make-ready for utility poles in adherence to NESC code and/or local requirements).
  • Establishing both capital and operating expenses associated with individual construction projects. This includes the overall spend management of a project which includes accurately forecasting third-party labor costs on the workorder, material costs, permitting costs, project accruals, change orders and final invoicing review/approval.
  • Performing the field estimate, site surveys/pre-engineering, build coordination, build and quality control for proposed construction projects.
  • Ensuring alternative routing to deliver the most cost-effective design for construction while future proofing the network for further expansion.
  • Managing and enabling all customer interaction activities including site walk-throughs, verification of demarcation point, coordinates access for contract labor and requests for private utility information.
  • Preparing and distributing contractor work and coordinating and/or obtaining permits, access, or ROW agreements where applicable.
  • Distributing design prints and other necessary working documents.
  • Negotiating and approving design or construction changes associated with contractors and/or customers scope of work.
  • Coordinating with public works personnel, developers, customers, building owners, and utilities on projects.
  • Completing associated tasks within workflow tools and databases.
  • Updating key stakeholders of timeline revisions and project status. Ensure other overall workflow task for boundary partners continues to move forward.
  • Estimating construction costs, prepares budgets, manages change orders, approve contractor invoices and tracks expenses on numerous individual construction projects.
  • Verifying serviceability, surveys proposed service routing, and estimates material, construction, and labor costs.
  • Initiating customer contacts, coordinates and/or secures access or ROW agreements, completes route designs, and takes necessary steps to meet customer needs.
  • Inspecting construction work or coordinate inspection assignments.
  • Releasing addresses as serviceable and notifies other departments of serviceability.
  • Holding contractors accountable to Cox construction standards and playbooks.
  • Participating in BCP restoration activities.
  • Perform other duties as requested.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum

  • High School diploma/GED and up to 2 years of experience in a related field (i.e., Engineering, Construction, Project Management, etc.)
  • Requires strong knowledge of applications such Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent technical skills related to coordinating work and time & cost estimation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish/develop project planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to learn or develop new skills.


Preferred

  • 2 years of experience in related area of responsibility (i.e., construction planning or network maintenance experience).
  • Project Management experience or certification.
  • Understand HFC cable system design - fiber/coax.
  • Understand network powering concepts.
  • Understand general construction practices.


USD 25.58 - 38.37 per hour

Compensation:

Hourly base pay rate is $25.58 - $38.37/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Benefits:

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, parental leave, and COVID-19 vaccination leave.
