Job Summary Provides information, referral, assessment, admission case management, insurance verification, admitting, financial counseling, and utilization management services to all customers desiring access to array of private and public behavioral health services.
Accountabilities
- Receives and responds to behavioral health source inquires regarding available hospital and community services. Documents appropriate information regarding inquiry according to established departmental procedures.
- Performs and documents patient assessments to include patient current symptoms, dangerousness to self or others, treatment history, mental status, and substance abuse in accordance with regulatory requirements for determining appropriate level of care for patients. Provide necessary clinical information to physician, units/programs, utilization review, and referral sources.
- Completes all required admission paperwork, secures necessary signatures, and enters necessary information into the computer system.
- Maintains pertinent data on patient calls, referrals, and dispositions as required.
- Utilizes critical thinking skills and skills in crisis intervention to respond to acute psychiatric situations and seek assistance from other clinical staff when needed.
- Communicates with third party payers either via telephonic review or written review. Provides appropriate clinical information and seeks information as requested. Advocates for patient care and treatment.
- Collaborates with community resources, business office, physicians, nursing staff, and utilization review staff in order to provide access for patients to the most appropriate level of care.
- Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric treatment modalities, community resources, psychotropic medications, treatment trends, DSM-IV, and "best practices" modalities in order to assist patients in accessing needed level of care.
- Demonstrates familiarity with medical necessity criteria for all levels of care and effectively communicates these to the patient and referral sources.
- Establishes positive working relationships with clinical staff, community resources, and third party payers
Supervisory/Management Responsibility This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive. Minimum Requirements
- Master's Degree in Social Work/Counseling
- 1 year of experience in psychiatric triage/psycho-social assessment and intervention
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses LMSW, LPC, RN or LPN (Lawson code L010) In Lieu Of The Above Minimum Requirements A RN with 1 year of psychiatric experience or a LPN with a Bachelor's degree and 5 years psychiatric experience. Team members employed in this job prior to July 1, 2020 are grandfathered under prior educational and experience requirements. In addition, team members must be certification eligible and will have one year to obtain required certification. Work Shift Day (United States of America)
