Requisition Summary

This key position is located within the Advanced Technology organization at the PACCAR Technical Center. The Advanced Technology team is leading R&D projects in strategic technology domains including clean Diesel powertrains, Battery Electric Vehicles, Fuel-Cell Electric Vehicles, Charging Infrastructure, Autonomy and V2X Connectivity. Most of the team's activities are incorporated into Department of Energy funded programs from which the PACCAR SuperTruck 3 program is the largest.

This role will support a number of these areas by providing strong technical leadership for improving existing processes and evaluating emerging technologies. Responsibilities include the execution of a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) framework through building logical models to help define and manage system architecture and interfaces at various levels of abstraction, as well as managing requirements and configuration items. Tasks also include championing of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) projects and Eco-system related assessments, focusing on vehicle and powertrain definition across all divisions (DAF, Kenworth, Peterbilt).

Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Refine and decompose vehicle system requirements to meet programmatic objectives considering business, technical, and regulatory landscapes.
  • Implementation of new Systems Engineering digital thread tools, process definition and documentation, as well as management of technical contents (e.g. requirements, models, etc.).
  • Collaborate with industry and research partners to exchange and disseminate relevant knowledge related to the development and evaluation of new technologies at the system and component levels.
  • Work with cross-divisional teams to manage the evaluation of new technology readiness levels (TRL), lead technical reviews, and explore opportunities to bring such technologies to fruition.
  • Communicate results and recommendations to team and stakeholders on a regular basis and cooperate with cross-divisional counterparts.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and methods. Explore implications for PACCAR and automotive industry in general.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in automotive research, or similar industry. Focus on commercial vehicles and/or powertrain systems desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, be a team player, a self-starter and have demonstrated high levels of initiative and innovation.
  • Academic or practical training in Systems Engineering methods and best practices. In-depth understanding of development models (e.g. V-Cycle, TRL, ICSM, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements writing and management needed (e.g. DOORS NextGen, JAMA, Windchill Codebeamer, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of system engineering tools (e.g. Rhapsody SysML, Simulink, etc.).
  • Previously demonstrated strong technical knowledge, analysis, and communication skills.
Education
  • Masters degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering required
  • INCOSE ASEP or CSEP Certification level highly desirable
