The Global Automation & Testing team is seeking a technician to support the standardization and globalization of existing Architectural performance test methods and identify opportunities to implement new test methods to support the development of Architectural products. This role will perform and evaluate technical tests on products and samples. Primary responsibility will be creating, evaluating, or updating our internal test methods used to evaluate paint and coatings performance or properties. Other responsibilities may include preparing and analyzing materials and samples, performing calculations, and cleaning and maintaining the lab. Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. Responsibilities Include:
- Perform testing of paint and coatings including application, and physical/performance test methods
- Following established test methods to produce accurate and precise results (within the capability of the testing method).
- Provide and record timely and accurate data to assess products and the testing methods.
- Prepare basic samples, materials, equipment, and other required tools for laboratory tests or development.
- Clean, maintain, and calibrate standard equipment.
- Assess and perform test methods established by 3rd parties or standard organizations (i.e. ASTM, MPI, etc.).
- Complete appropriate forms and documentation regarding tasks, testing and requests.
- Perform basic calculations to understand testing results, differentiate products, or evaluate the testing methods.
- Perform packaging and shipment of samples.
- May help design and execute experiments and begin to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Document processes and complete proper forms and documents as necessary or required.
- Comply with all safety and security regulations and maintain a clean work area.
- Work with the Safety Teams to establish safety guidelines (Job Safety Analysis) on new or existing test equipment.
- May need to support or follow direction from other technicians or chemists on specialized or complex testing.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Establish timelines for assignments based on priorities with assistance from their supervisor.
- Additional duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATION: * Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). FORMAL EDUCATION: Required: * Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Required: * 1 year in a lab setting * Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills * Excellent organization and planning skills * Proven problem-solving / decision-making ability Preferred: * Knowledge of basic paint concepts and property calculations. * Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances. Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025. Until then, the role will be based at Breen Technology Center, located at 601 Canal Road, Cleveland, OH 44113.
