Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking two Research Teaching Specialist IIIs for the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine for the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of a Research Teaching Specialist
III (Chemist) is to conduct standard and developmental chemical testing and analyses related to specific routine functions and to prepare reports.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Under supervision, assists with the coordination and review of the work from the staff in a chemical analysis laboratory unit.
- Conducts various physical, chemical, biochemical, toxicological testing, and analyses on food, milk, drugs, industrial hygiene, and environmental samples.
- Develops standardized procedures where possible and new testing methods as a result of modern developments, including the field of air pollution control.
- Assists with the preparation of exhibits to be used in court proceedings.
- May be required to act as a witness in court.
- Prepares letters explaining the results of chemical tests, examinations and analyses, and interpreting the findings.
- Prepares scientific papers for publication, participates in scientific meetings and conferences and serves on scientific committees.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's Degree in a natural science or physical science plus one (1) year of related research experience or a Bachelor's Degree in natural science or physical science plus two (2) year of related research experience.

- Physical Demands: Position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
- Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
