How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

Provides leadership for the daily operation of Emergency Psychiatry. Provides assessment referral services for self-referred and professionally referred clients. Responsible for coordinating and assesses inpatient psychiatry admissions. Serves as an on-site resource person for staff. Monitors daily activity levels and schedules staff accordingly. Monitor and collects data related to daily operations.

  • Provides leadership by assuming the role of mentor and coach for staff on a daily basis, participates in the development of policies and procedures, assures compliance with accepted standards of care.
  • Participates in on-going CQI activities and assists with data gathering for outcome studies. Assures the accurate completion of data gathering for record keeping and call tracking.
  • Maintains and continually updates a comprehensive referral directory of community agencies, services and programs. Serves as liaison between Emergency Psychiatry, physicians, nursing staff, emergency departments, Community Services Boards and other mental health professionals.
  • Provides assessment, consultation, coordination and referral services for self referred individuals/clients and patients/clients self referred or referred by physicians, counselors, agencies and other referral services. Provides assessment and consultation for mental health and chemical dependency inpatients at Carilion Facilities when requested by an attending physician.
  • Reviews referrals on a regular basis to assure clinical appropriateness and quality of service. Follows up with referral sources annually to ensure service excellence.
  • Maintains on-going communication with the Director to ensure the integration of Emergency Psychiatry services with other hospital programs.
  • Responsible for preparing and posting a monthly schedule for staff to assure appropriate coverage on a daily basis.
  • Serves as a professional liaison and representative to community service agencies as requested by the Director.
  • Maintains on-going communication with each Department Section Chief.
  • Assist Director of Connect with performance improvement activities and annual evaluations.
What We Require:

Education: One of the following required: Bachelor's in Nursing for a Registered Nurse or Master's degree in Clinical Social Work or Master's degree in Professional Counseling.

Experience: Minimum 3 years in a psychiatric setting and minimum 1 year leadership experience.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Registered Nurse license in Virginia or Clinical Social Worker license or Professional Counselling license based on discipline. De-escalation training must be successfully completed within one year of hire and then maintained going forward. Must be able to obtain AHA BLS-HCP.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Meets documented age specific criteria to provide crisis assessment services to adult, child and adolescent clients/patients. Excellent communication and customer service skills required. Strong computer skills required. Must be flexible and be willing to work as a team player. Must possess ability to appropriately handle/restrain patients who may be disruptive and/or physically violent. Must be willing and able to learn medical terminology and clinical procedures. Experience/skills may be gained through on-the-job training and in-services as indicated.
