ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a visionary Energy Engineering Team Leader to spearhead our growing Energy Evolution Practice | VHB in North Carolina. Join a dynamic, collaborative team at the forefront of transformative projects, including renewable energy development, transmission, substations, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

This is your opportunity to lead impactful projects, mentor emerging talent, and shape the future of energy while working with a diverse group of clients, stakeholders, and communities to achieve ambitious clean energy goals.

Responsibilities

    Serve as Engineer of Record and support preparation of land development design and permitting documents for Transmission, Substation, Solar and BESS development projects.
  • Prepare and review drawings and specifications documenting the design and construction requirements
  • Responsible for project financial performance and routine client communications
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders and community members to discuss project design and permitting issues
  • Manage work and professional development of junior-level staff
  • Manage small, medium, and large projects
  • Develop new project opportunities and assist with proposal development and submissions

Skills and Attributes

  • Experienced with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Project, MS Office. ArcGIS skills desirable.
  • Skills to implement the integrated services approach. Comprehensive understanding of design, details, and construction drawing preparation including site layout, grading, erosion control and stormwater management.
  • Knowledge of land development construction, construction materials and detailing. Detail drawings, sections, and material specifications
  • Project research and analysis
  • Strong, creative engineering skills and ability to adhere to office standards
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to multitask, think critically and attention to detail
  • Excels at working in a team environment
  • Exhibits strong leadership skills and growth potential
  • Has interest in growing business development skills

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related degree
  • 8+ years of increasing engineering experience on complex projects
  • PE licensure in North Carolina and/or Virginia, or ability to obtain either within 6 months
  • Proficient in site layout, grading, and stormwater management
  • Experience with regional investor-owned utilities required
  • Familiarity with North Carolina state rules and regulations; familiarity with Virginia rules and regulations a plus
  • Experience in developing and compiling/producing site plans, construction documents, specifications, and engineering reports
