Job Summary

The Pharmaceutical Chemistry department is hiring for a Staff Research Associate to join their team. The lab does research involving cell culture, molecular biology and optical microscopy. The Staff Research Associate will provide support to the research by assisting and carrying our research projects involving cell culture, molecular biology, and optical microscopy.

The Staff Research Associate will provide support to the research by assisting and carrying our research projects involving microscopy and molecular biology and prepare and amplify plasmids. This position will also provide support for lab maintenance and organization.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is one of three departments in the UCSF School of Pharmacy and is under the administrative oversight of the Department Chair, Michelle Arkin. Through research and teaching, the Department seeks to understand the biological principles of small molecules, proteins, and cellular design, and to apply these principles for the therapeutic benefit of patients.

Required Qualifications


  • BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact productively with lab and campus personnel
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with working with optical microscopy will be an added advantage.
