Overview

Are you ready to dive into a dynamic role that bridges client service with operational excellence? As a Practice Analyst at Orrick, you'll be a crucial part of our evolving support model, engaging directly with practice groups and business departments to provide substantive support and operational insights. This entry-level role is ideal for those with an interest in law firm operations, legal processes, or professional services who seek a rewarding career path in a top-tier global law firm. We welcome applications from candidates available to start in January 2025, as well as current college students graduating in May 2025 who are looking to begin their careers in a top-tier global law firm with a preference for one of our West Coast locations- Los Angeles, Menlo Park, Orange County, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Santa Monica, or Seattle, with consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

In this role, you'll gain hands-on experience with technology, process improvement, and client management tools, laying a strong foundation for your future career. You'll also develop expertise in administrative support processes that are essential to running a global firm, enhancing your operational knowledge and building practical skills that drive business success. Responsibilities

What You'll Do

As a Practice Analyst, variety really is the name of the game. Here are just some of the types of tasks that will fill your day:

    Client & Practice Group Support: Act as a support resource to our legal teams by managing essential client and internal tasks. Leverage CRM tools and legal experience databases to manage data that supports our client teams. You'll handle new business conflicts reports, open new matters, and help track internal knowledge and expertise.
  • Operational Efficiency & Document Management: Streamline workflows and ensure seamless document handling by preparing client financial reports, litigation pleadings, transaction documents, and engagement letters. You'll use firm tools and resources to support ongoing projects and leverage insights to refine processes.
  • General Administrative & Operational Support: Play a critical role in the smooth day-to-day functioning of our practice groups and business departments by providing general support, including coordinating meetings, managing scheduling, arranging travel, and assisting with expense reports. This includes organizing cross-time-zone meetings and supporting attorneys in delivering high-touch client experiences.
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting: Support financial processes by preparing client invoices, vendor bills, and internal financial reports. Utilize tools like PowerBI and Excel to develop reports that give insights into client matters and operational efficiency.
  • Innovation & Process Improvement: Identify ways to improve workflows, optimize our use of technology, and contribute new ideas to foster Orrick's commitment to innovation and efficiency across our practice groups.

  • Analytical & Technical Skills: Ability to navigate data and technology with ease. Proficiency in MS Office Suite is essential, with experience in PowerBI or Excel a plus.
  • Organizational Excellence: Strong time management and multitasking abilities. You'll handle multiple projects with competing deadlines, often requiring prioritization and flexibility.
  • Attention to Detail: A commitment to accuracy in all aspects of your work, from document management to data handling.

  • Problem-Solving Ability: A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues, as well as optimizing processes and workflows.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between:

  • California Major Markets* $ 42,000- $68,500
  • New York City $ 45,000 - $68,500
  • National $ 41,000-$55,000

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
