Overview The Senior Engineer under general guidance directs or performs specific engineering assignments of major size or complexity and makes independent decisions on engineering problems and methods. The Senior Engineer establishes specifications for contracts, reviews bids and may make or approve field design changes. On station assignments, the Senior Engineer may represent Central Engineering in the resolution of engineering related problems and in coordinating work to be done. The Steam Projects Boilers Team Senior Engineer must be well organized, detail oriented, able to render sound business decisions, and have the flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. This individual must have a high regard for personal accountability and understand the critical importance of commitment to excellence. Requires a Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Engineering and 8 years of applicable experience (applicants who also have a Masters degree require 6 years of experience). Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME, NFPA, NEC, ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact Steam Boiler Team Projects. Knowledge of inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required. Computer skills required to include proficiency in Microsoft Outlook to include Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Must have strong customer service instincts.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Conceives, plans, designs engineering solutions or alternatives for new refurbishment projects, including technical and economic evaluations, specification preparation, feasibility studies and long term planning.
- Performs at the request and under direction of other engineering organizations within Central Engineering.
- Serves as a sponsor engineer, meets with other departments In the design, estimating, erection, testing, maintaining and supplying consultation for the installation of mechanical &. control and instrumentation equipment.
- Prepares appropriations for sponsored projects. Prepares and directs the preparation of specifications and the development of system design for the installation and repair of mechanical equipment, and Instrumentation and control equipment.
- Prepares engineering sketches required to modify systems and monitors the implementation by Company forces. Initiates requests for funding of projects having a small cost range.
- Provides design improvement recommendations in connection with steam generating plant systems.
- Reviews with user coordinators the preliminary engineering drawings and specifications released for comment.
- Performs independent economic evaluation of system equipment replacements and new projects.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of applicable engineering work experience - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H) Requires unsupervised execution of project support in the discipline specific requirements for 2H. Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME, NFPA ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact steam projects. Knowledge of evaluating inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required. or
- Master's Degree with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering and 6 years of applicable engineering work experience - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H) Requires unsupervised execution of project support in the discipline specific requirements for 2H. Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME, NFPA,ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact steam projects. Knowledge of evaluating inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required.
Relevant Work Experience
- REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- - Bachelors degree in Engineering and 8 yrs of applicable experience. Applicants who also have a Masters degree require 6 yrs of applicable experience.

- - Working knowledge of Boiler Island inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required.

Additional Physical Demands
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
